Australia Votes 2019

Australian Polling Booths on Election Day

On May 18th 2019, Election Day, Australians went to the polls to vote. Voters pick up their House of Representatives (green) and Senate (white) ballot papers and go to the voting booth. The House of Representatives only number a handful of candidates, while the Senate has  dozens of candidates to choose from. When voters have marked the ballot papers, they put them in the corresponding ballot boxes.

When you have voted, you can usually pick up something to eat. The 'Democracy Sausage' is an Election Day tradition, and is available from the sausage sizzle stand. Cakes and sweet treats can be found at the bake sale.
